Engine Development Laboratory
About Us
The Engine Development Lab (EDL) at ARAI is a premier center for engine research, development, and testing, with decades of proven expertise in performance optimization and emissions evaluation. Accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017, our state-of-the-art facilities include advanced steady-state and transient test cells for engines ranging from 20 kW to 800 kW, dedicated durability test cells, and a specialized vehicle test cell for 2W, 3W, and M/N category vehicles.
EDL plays a key role in Genset certification activities for diesel and alternate fuel Genset up to 800kW, portable genset up to 19kW, and Genset RECD UPTO 800 kW.
EDL has been at the forefront of alternate fuel development since 1992 and has successfully completed over 100 projects for Indian OEMs—many of which power vehicles on Indian roads today
EDL specializes in End-to-End Engine Design and Development, focusing on engine design, combustion optimization for superior efficiency and durability. We deliver performance and emission calibration across diverse applications—Automotive (PC, LCV, HCV), Off-road (Tractors & CEV), and stationary engines (gensets). Committed to global standards, we ensure compliance with BSVI, Stage IV/V, Tier 4, IGES IV+ and beyond, ensuring superior performance, reduced emissions, and readiness for future mobility solutions
Beyond physical testing, our capabilities extend to cutting-edge simulation technologies, offering 1D and 3D combustion simulation and Virtual test beds for Genset, off-road and on-road engine categories to meet the latest emission norms and OBD II compliance checks in virtual environment
vehicle fuel efficiency and energy audit solutions for heavy-duty, medium and light commercial vehicle applications.
By combining innovation with precision, EDL helps clients meet stringent global emission norms and achieve optimal performance for both conventional and alternate fuel engines
