Regulatory Support to the Government of India

Central Motor Vehicle Rules – Technical Standing Committee (CMVR-TSC):

- CMVR-TSC was constituted by the Government of India in the year 1997. This Committee advises MoRT&H on various technical aspects related to CMVR and plays a major role in the development and implementation of the Safety Regulations for vehicles and auto components in India. ARAI provides Technical Secretariat service to CMVR-TSC.

Automotive Industry Standards Committee (AISC):

- AISC is set up under CMVR-TSC by MoRTH in the year 1997 with an objective to formulate safety standards for vehicles, systems & components and review existing standards for amendments and recommend their implementation. ARAI provides a Secretariat to deal with technical issues deliberated under AISC.

World Forum for Harmonisation of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29):

- National Standing Committee on WP.29 was formed in 2003 to deal with the subjects under discussion in WP.29. ARAI provides the technical secretariat to the committee as well as to the different working Sub-Groups identified to deliberate on technical subjects under consideration in respective groups, viz., GRRF, GRPE, GRSG, GRSP, GRB, and GRE, under WP. 29 of UN ECE, Geneva.
Publishing of Automotive Industry Standards, Upgradation / Amendments
Since the formation of AISC, ARAI has published a total of 173 AIS standards & several amendments to AIS as of March 2016, covering a wide range of subjects for different categories of motor vehicles.
