About the programme
|
ARAI and VIT offer a joint M.Tech programme in
automotive engineering which is specially designed to meet the needs of modern
automotive industry. The first year of study is at VIT, Vellore and the second
is at ARAI, Pune.

About VIT
|
The Vellore Institute of Technology, a Deemed
University and a Center of Excellence for Higher Technical Education in the
country located in Vellore in Tamil Nadu ,(hereafter referred to as VIT)
conducts various under-graduation and post-graduation programmes in various
disciplines. VIT has facilities that are striking in every way. The
environment-friendly green campus is a home to a wealth of computing facilities
and laboratories and several architecturally striking buildings where every
need of student and faculty has been provided for. VIT is the first educational
institution in India which has got International accreditation (IEE, UK) for
its programmes.

About ARAI
|
The Automotive Research Association of India, a Registered
Society and an Industrial Research Organization formed by the Indian Automotive
Industries and The Ministry of Industry, Government of India, located at
Pune,(hereafter referred to as ARAI). ARAI is the only establishment of its
kind in this part of the world.

|
VIT has excellent infrastructure like CAD / CAM
Centres, Mechatronics, CFD, Fluid Mechanics, Tribology, Machine Dynamics, and
Thermal Engineering Laboratories, Central Library and Computing Centres to name
a few. The CFD Lab is equipped with advanced computing systems and FLUENT,
GAMBITand CFX softwares. In addition state-of-the-art centers for Automotive
research and Automotive Electronics have been set up with funding from
Government of India. VIT has already MOUs for exchange of faculty and
information, in this field with two German universities , University of Applied
Sciences, Esslingen and University of Applied Sciences, Dresden and one
Canadian University – Concordia University, Montreal, which are all well
known for their expertise in the field of Automotive Engineering.

ARAI has state-of-the-art facilities and expertise in various
areas, namely, Engine Design and Development, Emission Testing and control,
Noise, Vibration and harshness(NVH), Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) and its
application in product design, development and validation, Structural
Integrity, Reliability, Road Load Simulation, Automotive Electronics, Safety
and Homologation, Evaluation and Certification of Vehicles, Systems and
components and Alternate Fuels. Also ARAI has got an excellent technical
information center and high capacity computing facilities with softwares
covering various automotive areas.

Placements
|
The above programme, which is now giving a yearly output of 50 Post Graduate Engineers, who have attained expertise in this specialised field of automotive technology and they are proving to be an asset to the automotive industry / R&D and testing institutions in the country. 50 students of 1st two batches and 35 of the 3rd batch have already been placed at well known automotive companies like TATA Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Ashok Leyland, Hindustan Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Force Motors, Piaggio Vehicles Pvt. Ltd., John Deere, Sonalika Tractors, SANE DEUTZ FAHR, GE Transportation and also at NATRIP & ARAI.

Eligibility
|
Candidates
with
a
bachelor’s
degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Production
Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering or Mechatronics are eligible for the
programme.
Admissions strictly on merit basis. Regarding entrance exam, notification will
be issued in Feb.2008 and entrance exam will be held
