Fire resistance test facility as per IS – 15547
  Test facility specifications as per IS: 15547.
  The system is able to run on a rail up to a distance of 8 meter
 
There are two pans, one pan for burning fuel and another pan with a screen, which is placed above the fuel pan.
  Ignition of the fuel in the fuel pan is from an external source.
 
Test is completed in three phases, first phase is preheating of tank, second phase is direct exposure to fire and third phase is indirect exposure to fire. Each phase lasts for a minute.
 
Facility is well equipped with safety measures such as fire suit, see through control room, fire extinguisher etc

Environmental Test Facilities
A number of integrative tests have been successfully carried out to develop components, Such as dashboards, door trims, bumpers, lighting devices, LED displays etc.

Environmental testing is simulation of different environmental conditions like temperature, humidity, rain, solar radiation exposure and their combinations and exposure of test component to these conditions. The combination may be tested in cyclic and in combination of different parameters.

1000 kgf. electro-dynamic shaker is used to carry out vibration durability up to 2000 Hz The equipment facilitates testing in all the three x, y, and z axes. It is capable to simulate sine, random, shock, sweep sine, type of waveforms.

Application - Performance checking of paints, adhesives, fabrics, plastics, textiles etc. for accelerated weathering

Spectro-Colorimeter  is used for Measurement of  Colour co-ordinates, CIEL *a*b**C*h,  CMC, XYZxy, Hunter lab,  Reflectance, Glossiness after exposure to climatic conditions for the evaluation purpose.

UV Chamber (Mercury Arc Ultra Violet) :

Dust Test :
  Chamber meets the requirements of  SS 15.1 (Cl. 6.0), IS: 1884 -1993 (Cl. 8.12), ECE R 3 (Annex. 8,Cl. 1.2.2), IS 10250 -1982 (Cl no.4.6)
  The internal chamber is cubical in shape measuring 900 mm in all direction not including hopper shaped bottom.
  Chamber  capable to maintain and indicating any temperature between ambient to 60°C ± 3°C throughout its working space.
  The chamber capable of agitating dust by projecting blasts of compressed air with help of ON/OFF selectable timer. Range of the timer should be 1- 60 selectable in second / minutes.

Water Chamber:
  Chamber meets the requirements of IS: 14210:1994 (Cl. 6.9), SS 15.1 (Cl. 7.0), IS: 1884 -1993 (Cl. 8.14), ECE R 3 (Annex. 8, Cl. 1.2.1), IS: 9000 (Part XVI): 1983.
  Chamber having working space of 1mX1mX1m.
  Chamber capable of spraying water at any temperature between Ambient to 60°C.
 
Revolving table having diameter between 450 mm to 500 mm at the center of the working space should be provided. Table should be capable of rotating around its vertical axis with a total weight of 50 kg. The RPM of the table should be variable between 2 to 10 RPM with an accuracy of ± 0.5 RPM.
  Spraying nozzle / nozzles (8 Nos.) capable of spraying water in solid cone with different pressure.

About Photometry lab.
ARAI operates the longest serving independent NABL / ISO: 17025 accredited photometric laboratory in India.

Our lab is also certified for ISO: 9001, ISO: 14001, OHSAS: 18001, while at the same time continually reviewing, monitoring and updating measuring techniques and processes.

The NABL accreditation assures our staffs will demonstrate due competency and our laboratory methods and equipment yield accurate and dependable results. Our approach is to be the technical arm of the client during the time in which we are involved with a testing activities \ project.

ARAI maintains the policy that the laboratory will undertake any form of testing that may be requested within its sphere of competency including LED devices, railway application lighting, aeronautical lighting and general lighting etc.

The continuing development of the ARAI photometry laboratory facilities is constantly under review, in order to investigate ways of achieving shorter turnaround times, greater accuracy, and quality results for our Clients.

The laboratory can act in a consultancy role for R&D projects related to lighting and related areas.

ARAI employs a flexible method of working and take your planning and processes into account as much as possible.

ARAI is also providing calibration service all our clients including testing agencies.

ARAI is continuously participating WP29-GRE for updating ECE regulations and also Indian regulations through AISC.

Lamps
 
Goniophotometers for measurement of light distribution and luminous flux of signal lamps or headlamps for automotive, aircraft or marine lighting or lighting for other means of transport
 
Distribution photometry on all types of lamps and luminaries. All luminaries including street lights, indoor, outdoor, purpose built and general application. All lamp types including LEDs, discharge and incandescent.

The laboratory specializes in one–off testing, research, design or development projects, both within the field or on–site, including life–time or long–term performance testing, comparison testing, meeting standards codes and specifications.

Reflectance and Transmission Testing
 
Reflectance and transmission measurements, both broadband and spectral (250 – 840 nm) for specular (mirror like) surfaces or diffuse using our integrating spheres. Includes windscreens, windows and general glass or plastics, shade cloth, tiles and other building products

Colorimetry Testing
 
Tristimulus colormeters for color measurement on light sources, e.g. lamps, luminaries, light signals, flares, monitors, displays, glasses and filters. Colorimeters of highest precision for absolute measurements with the tristimulus method acc. to DIN 5033 part 6 resp. CIE Publ. No. 15.2 (1966). Colorimeter heads with Si-photoelements and high precise spectral adjustment to the CIE color matching functions

Walk in hot and cold chamber facility In Safety and Homologation Laboratory.
DESCRIPTION
Walk-in Chamber consists of thermal chamber with workspace for performance testing of automobiles (car and commercial vehicles upto 6.5 m overall length, engines, and components.

Technical details of walk in hot and cold room
  Operating Temperature range for testing at atmospheric pressure:  -20ºC to + 90ºC
  Operating Humidity range – 90% RH +10/-5 % @ 20-35 ºC.
  Capacity to take up equivalent engine heat load of a 1.5 L engine.
 
Uniformity in the space and uniformity in the rate of change is maintained for the performance ranges in the entire workspace of the chamber.

DIMENSIONS
Work space dimensions: Width approx.3.4 m, Depth approx. 6.5 m, and Height approx.3.5 m.

UTILITIES
  Provision of wicket door for entry and exit during test.
  Provision of two numbers of port holes provided for data acquisition, instrumentation / exhaust gas analysis etc

Write-up for SAE Dust
ARAI is providing pulverized AC Fine Test Dust and AC Coarse Test Dust as per SAE J 726a. The pulverized dust is tested against SAE standard requirements for particle size and % distribution for the constituent's viz. SiO2,Fe2O3, Al2O3,CaO, MgO etc. at a pre-decided interval using Laser diffraction type Particle size analyzer (Make: M/s. CILAS, France).

This is found very useful and cost effective service by most of the components manufactures mainly filter manufactures, transmission parts manufactures, etc.
