ARAI is a premier Research and Development institution in India, but, that is not the only uniqueness. We believe, we are a responsible citizen too. While performing our normal duties towards environment, we have decided to discharge our social responsibility towards society.

Accordingly, we have, with the help of 20 enthusiastic volunteers started this activity in last September,2008. To start with, we had displayed various hoardings making awareness about not using colours [Gulal] to save the environment during public gathering for famous Pune Ganapati festival to which we received a good response. We permitted use of parking place at ARAI for Door-Step-School. Procurement of Stationery items and providing free display place at SIAT - 2009 for Murals/Paintings made by orphanage were additional helps extended under this endeavor.

Taking a leap over the goal, ARAI decided to spare 0.5% of our net earnings towards such activity. Accordingly our teams visited various projects in and around Pune and selected three of such projects for the first year.

Project 1
To provide assistance in fitting Solar Lighting System at Aapla Ghar, an Orphanage at Gole wadi, Pune. [Rs.80,000/-]

Project 2
To provide sponsorship [Medical, Nutritional & Educational support] to children of HIV affected parents thru, Manavya Pune. [Rs.2,25,000/-]

Project 3
To provide transport vehicle for running Door-Step School for children of construction workers. [Rs.6,00,000/-]

We know this is a big voyage, but this one step would take us near the goal by one step at least. That is why we have said in the beginning that we also search such opportunities to help ourselves....

Formulation of Social Responsibility Support Group (SRSG) at ARAI

ARAI is a responsible corporate citizen. To fulfill its duties towards our environment and Society, it is decided to take up initiative in the area of Social Responsibility. In September 2008, a support group was formed for this purpose. It consists of 20 enthusiastic volunteers from ARAI employees. SRSG has identified focus areas for ARAI, where monitory assistance could be given for deserving projects.

Health and Education

During this year, ARAI has utilized 0.5% of our net earnings towards this noble cause. Out of several projects in and around Pune City, three projects were selected namely:

Project 1

To provide assistance in fitting Solar Lighting System at “Aaple Ghar”, an Orphanage at Gole wadi, Pune (Rs.80,000/-)

This orphanage is situated in a small town at the foot hills of Sinhagad. Provision of Solar Lighting System has greatly helped the orphanage in this power shortage rural zone.

Project 2

To provide sponsorship in terms of medical, nutritional and educational support to children of HIV affected parents through “Manavya” Pune (Rs.2.25 Lakh)

Manavya runs a help home for children of HIV affected parents. Our grant is utilized for 15 such children during this year.

Project 3

To provide transport vehicle for running Door-Step School for children of construction workers. (Rs.6 Lakh)

This NGO organizes running schools on the construction sites in and around Pune city. ARAI has donated Tata Winger Vehicle for this purpose.
