This established facility can handle components weighing up to 10 t and maximum size of 1.5 m x 1.5m x 2.2m with a drop height up to 12 m. The components are dropped on an Un-Yielding Target (UYT), consisting of a concrete block of 7m x 7m x 2.5 m (depth), (weighing more than 300 t) resting on hard rock with a top single MS plate of 3 m x 2 m x 280 mm thickness, embedded in concrete along with suitable load spreaders. A 10 t capacity, 15 m span and 15 m drop height Goliath Crane along with suitable quick release mechanism is provided for shifting, lifting and dropping the test specimens.

A bogie type diesel fired furnace of internal dimensions 4.2m x 3.5m x 3.5m, which can go up to 1150C for carrying out thermal studies on objects is available. The temperature distribution inside the furnace is within +10° C.

There is a 32 channel data logging system with a sampling rate of 2 per second/channel to study the temperature distribution inside the furnace. This can be used also for measuring the temperature of test objects.

A pressure vessel of elliptical shape with internal diameter of the cylinder of 2500 mm and overall height of 3.4 m as per ASME section VIII, Div-I/ IS: 2825 for hydraulic pressure testing up to 20 kg/m is available.
